This is the annual high school performance poetry challenge for young poets in Anchorage and the Mat-Su Valley. High school students write and perform original poetry.
About Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud is a community outreach program designed to encourage high school students to write and perform original poetry, to inspire learning and develop performance skills in its participants.


2004 Poetry Out Loud Results
The 8th Annual Poetry Out Loud High School Poetry Competition on April 24, 2004, brought out high school poets from Steller, Grace Christian School, Bartlett, and even Palmer.


2003 Poetry Out Loud Results
The 7th Annual Poetry Out Loud High School Poetry Competition on April 19, 2003, brought forth the work of amazing south central Alaska high school students.

2002 and 2003 Winner of the Jessie Withrow Prize for Excellence: Bradley Treuer
Bradley Treuer is a senior at Steller Secondary School. He is the acting president of the Steller Environmental Club, a writer for Perfect World, and a participant in Anchorage Youth Court.


Remembering Jessie Withrow
The Department of Creative Writing and Literary Arts (CWLA), University of Alaska Anchorage, has established an award in Jessie Winthrow's honor.


2001 Winner of the Jessie Withrow Prize for Excellence: Matt Iverson
Matt Iverson is a senior in the School Within a School at East High School. His hobbies include playing trumpet, piano, and drum set, riding his bike and, believe it or not, writing poetry.
