In this 1939 image by Otto Schallerer, Charles Brown, right, and Billy Andrews, two of the Tlingit carvers who worked replicating the Raven totem, pose with an antique figure of Abraham Lincoln. The image once topped a deteriorating totem at Old Tongass, the home village of the Raven pole. The original Lincoln pole was copied and reinstalled at Saxman in 1940, where it still stands.
