P.M. Elwell's pet bear cub

Aboard the SS Dora, H. Tucker holds P.M. Elwell's pet bear cub, which became the ship's mascot on the cruise. Built in 1880 and purchased by the Alaska Steamship Co. in 1908, the Dora transported freight and passengers in Alaska's waters until 1920. Anchorage Museum of History and Art, Library and Archives.
