Peer Work

Art Class
By Maura Barry-Garland

We've made some cutbacks
in creativity:
Annexed it.
Scheduled it.
Fit it in for fifty minutes a day--
Mondays and Fridays, it's forty-five.
Sandwiched in between
Math and European history,
we will find the time to tell you to:
Cut on the dotted lines.
Draw a picture of this.
Take a picture of that.
Memorize this color wheel.
In exchange we will act surprised
when you press your thumbs into the moist ball of clay before you
and find your mind quite dry.
